2025 Goal: Embracing "Balance" & Updates...
Happy New Year adventurers! I am SO excited to be going into a brand new year with you all and I have finally figured out the word I'd like to embrace this year, and that is balance.
And that can be applied to so many things outside of just boardgames... balance with work-life, balance with my relationships/friendships, balance studying for certifications related to my career-goals, balance with my budgeting, balance improving my climbing/bouldering skills, etc.
So here is how I will do that:
1. Continuing my schedule
I am setting certain hours and days for my hobbies. I did do that in 2024 and will just continue to do so. In the mornings, I love waking up early to read my books or play a quick cozy board game. During my lunch breaks, I either go climb or set up a board game (usually a light/mid game) or a TTRPG/D&D campaign sesh. And then in the afternoons/evenings after I log off, I continue the game or campaign I set up and play! It's been a nice schedule, so I think I will just continue and adjust as needed.
2. Sticking to a budget
Nothing new here, but board games can get expensive lol. And I know for myself I try to wait for those good deals when I know I am ready to buy a game I've always wanted to get. It's always so much more rewarding knowing you got a really good one for a good deal haha!
3. Letting go of board games I've outgrown
Letting go of honestly anything is always hard. BUT, I told myself that I will just let some games go when I know I don't enjoy them as much as I used to, or games that I don't click with anymore.
- I hate to admit this, but I think campaign-based games are no longer my thing anymore... I think it's because when I am done with the game I tend to think, "Ok, now what?" I guess once I get through the story, I feel like it's hard to play it again when I know how it ends? So sadly, I am letting go of Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion and Sword & Sorcery: Immortal Souls.
- I am on the fence with Tiny Epic Dungeons... I had a lot of fun playing this one, but for whatever reason I find it too fiddly for me... which is surprising because I usually love fiddly games. I'm not really sure why, but I've decided to accept the fact that I am done with that one lol.
4. Continue connecting with other like-minded individuals
While I enjoy my solo board gaming adventures, it's fun exploring this hobby with a community! So, shoutout to the amazing Instagram community! I love that many of us understand the struggles with this hobby... it can be expensive... it can be overwhelming... it can burn you out easily, especially for us content creators.
Love that we are in this in all the highs and lows!
5. Saying "no" when I need to prioritize other things
Enough said. I will take social media breaks when I need to or if I just need to focus on other things. I think it's important to take breaks from hobbies cause then it'll start to feel like a "have-to" instead of a "want-to."
Now... UPDATES!
I am making my very first solo TTRPG adventure game for the newbies out there!!!! I have a friend of mind reviewing my final draft and then I will share a video on Instagram about how to play and where to access it!
