Magic the Gathering (MTG): My First Red/Green Standard Deck

Image
I just won my first duel against one of my MTG buddies! And honestly, I was very surprised by how I guess "lucky" I got with my strategy to win.  Let me remind you that we are both SUPER new to the MTG world, so I don't even really know what defines a deck to be "good" other than... if you know your cards and know how to play them, then I'd say it's a "good" deck.  So, for mine I wanted to go aggressive and bring out a bunch of creatures. I basically wanted to create an army of creatures to overwhelm my opponent. I then settled with a red/green deck. So, what goes into an Aggro 60-card standard deck? I've noticed in my own research, it's hard to put a number on how many lands... creatures... non-creature spells... etc. to put into your deck because it all depends on YOUR strategy on how YOU want to play. At minimum, if you are playing standard, you have to have 60 cards. Out of those 60 cards if you are trying to build an Aggro deck , i...

My Top 3 Narrative-Driven Board Games

Image
I officially have 30 games in my collection and I've noticed that narrative-driven games are ones I tend to gravitate towards the most! Here are my top 3 story-driven games and let me share why: 1. Call of Kilforth Players: 1-4 Playing Time: 45 - 180 minutes (average for me as a solo player is 60 minutes) Complexity: 3/5 Mechanisms: Co-Op/Solo, dice rolling, modular board, roleplaying, set collection Replayability: Honestly... ENDLESS Must be pretty obvious, I am in LOVE with the Kilforth world that Hall or Nothing Games has created. Tristan Hall knows how to make high-quality games with such immersive themes, and he ALWAYS keeps in mind the solo player. I'm always so impressed with his games and what he creates. Call of Kilforth is this nautical themed version of the Kilforth world (there is Gloom of Kilforth and Shadows of Kilforth) and it's all about completing your personal saga (comprised of 4 chapters) before defeating one of the evil ancients. As you sail around the ...

2 Board Game Stores to Check Out in Austin, TX

Image
So, as most of you know I was helping my sister move to Austin, TX! And you know what that means... it's time to EXPLORE and check out some BOARD GAME STORES! 1. Tanuki Games Shoutout to my Instagram board game buddies for recommending this cool little board game store. This particular spot LITERALLY has any and every kind of game you can think of. They have a bunch of new releases, various expansions, lots of games imported from Japan, etc. They have so much, you might feel overwhelmed when you come in, but I swear it's a "good" overwhelming feeling haha.  They also carry a bunch of TTRPGs and TCGs, you can find so much in here. The store itself is a bit small, so if you do want to avoid feeling "cramped," I recommend to check out their online store and look at their stock so then you can just pick it up when you get there! The board game I purchased from here is... Ironwood. I am a big fan of area-control, skirmish board games, so I took a chance on it and...

Magic the Gathering (MTG): Can you play it solo?

Image
Yes, there are VARIOUS ways to play it solo! One way I like to play is by playing your deck against a "Challenge Deck"! For example, "Journey into Nyx: Defeat a God," is one that I own. There are many types that you can find online that play differently, but before you purchase one, make sure it is a  challenge deck, not  a challenger deck.  Overview & Objective: The goal is to defeat the god, Xenagos. You win the game if Xenagos leaves the battlefield, and that can only happen if there are no Revelers left.  You play using the basic MTG rules with just a few exceptions: You start with 3 Hero cards. It is recommended to play using Hero cards, but that is not needed to play. I personally tweak that rule by playing 1 creature (if I get luck lol) out of the 7 cards I draw for the first round and then play as normal. He has a brutal deck, so you can get wiped out real quickly.  You can attack Xenagos and Revelers with your creatures , and any number of c...
