Solo MTG: Learning to Build a Deck of Elves! 🧝

Image
I have decided to teach myself how to build a Commander deck! I am building a deck of Elves all revolving around my commander, Lathril, Blade of the Elves . This is a pretty common (and relatively cheap, which is nice) commander to build a deck around since her abilities quite simple: 1. She has menace, so she can't be blocked except by two or more creatures. 2. When she deals combat damage to a player, she can create that many 1/1 Elf creature tokens. 3. And when you tap her and 10 Elves, each opponent would lose 10 life points and you GAIN 10 life points! I've been researching cards that can protect my commander, give her trample, and cast cheap elves that can get easily bulked up by equipments, artifacts, instants, etc. and I've been learning a lot! I don't have my full deck made just yet, definitely not trying to rush the process and I'm slowly acquiring the right cards and testing ones that I already have in my collection.  I have decided to create a standard 6...

Solo TTRPG Tips: How to Find Inspiration for Creating Your Campaign

Image
As your prepping your solo TTRPG session, have you ever found yourself thinking, "Ok... how do I come up with a really good campaign?" First of all, this is COMPLETELY normal. You have NO idea, how many ideas I had and scratched all them out because they either felt boring or just too "predictable." A lot experienced solo TTRPG-ists come up with their own system and they go off what works for them, so don't feel like you are "doing it wrong." For me personally, this is how I combat the question, "How do I come up with a good campaign?" 1. I create the character FIRST. - I like to start with figuring out my character's strengths, flaws, goals/dreams, past/current relationships, how they view morality/politics, etc. I LOVE getting into those details and make them complicated, which I personally think would add a lot of different elements to their story. Make them complext! 2. Then, I create the campaign surrounding that character's pe...

Making a Game: The Wizard's Missing Gemstone

Image
I would have never imagined myself making my very own solo-rpg journaling game!!!! My online board-game buddy just encouraged me to try! I make tables all the time anyways when I play my own D&D/TTRPG sessions and I thought it would be cool to tap into that game-designer mindset. My Process & Goals: 1. I wanted to create a game that is easy for the newbies out there to grasp. I wanted it simple; you roll the dice and let's see what happens! I liked the theme of solving a mystery and talking to NPCs, and I thought the objective was simple and clear.  2. I wanted to create a visual of a Gameplay Loop. THIS, I thought was necessary. There are some TTRPGs that I've played where I get confused on what to do next, or I constantly would forget a step. I then would end up drawing my own for guidance, so including this visual I thought would be helpful.  3. I wanted to incorporate different types of dice. In the original design, I only had 1d6 and 1d10. I figured just ha...

2025 Goal: Embracing "Balance" & Updates...

Image
Happy New Year adventurers! I am SO excited to be going into a brand new year with you all and I have finally figured out the word I'd like to embrace this year, and that is balance .  And that can be applied to so many things outside of just boardgames... balance with work-life, balance with my relationships/friendships, balance studying for certifications related to my career-goals, balance with my budgeting, balance improving my climbing/bouldering skills, etc. So here is how I will do that: 1. Continuing my schedule I am setting certain hours and days for my hobbies. I did do that in 2024 and will just continue to do so. In the mornings, I love waking up early to read my books or play a quick cozy board game. During my lunch breaks, I either go climb or set up a board game (usually a light/mid game) or a TTRPG/D&D campaign sesh. And then in the afternoons/evenings after I log off, I continue the game or campaign I set up and play! It's been a nice schedule, so I thin...
