A Vinekin's Revenge (pt. 10 & 11): Under the Altar & Through the Tunnels

Image
Morgwen feels Kevin's vines tighten around her limbs, but loosen around her head. She sees in the dark a pair of white glowing eyes... "Ah Morgwen, no need to squirm now... you cannot escape me," Kevin says. Her eyes are starting to adjust to the dark now and turns her head to sees Selene completely still in fear and shock looking upon her god, Kevin. "You foolish girls, you think you can defeat me?! I am a GOD." Morgwen starts to feel the vine around her loosen, giving her a chance to speak. "I know what you're planning! You want to destroy Thornmere," she yells at him. Selene then interrupts her twin sister, "Morgwen, Kevin is a protector of Everveil. He has been given this task as the caretaker, by Arteris! The goddess herself!" Kevin grunts in frustration towards Morgwen. "You don't understand. I have fallen from Arteris's favor... Thornmere has ruined the beauty Everveil once had. That stupid Thornmere Mayor has been t...

A Vinekin's Revenge (pt.9): Trapped & Ensnared

Image
As the path cleared, a deep mysterious voice comes through the forest. "Welcome, my loyal disciples." It was Kevin's voice greeting his followers. Morgwen could see Martin's smile and eagerness in the torchlight. She notices his tight grip on the Crown of Thorns. He shouldn't have that crown... if Kevin is trying to perform Vineamorphosis, I need to stop him before it's too late , she thinks to herself. They all walk along the path and soon, it leads them to the Stone Thornbound Altar and Kevin, the Vinekin, standing behind the altar with his arms stretched-wide. The member of the chapel gather around the altar and bow, paying their respects to Kevin. Morgwen observes everyone's movements and mannerisms and tries to blend in and does the same.  Martin comes forward to the altar and bows down to Kevin. He walks around the altar and places his hand on Martin's shoulder saying, "Rise, Martin, for you have been chosen to guide my people. I shall rew...

A Vinekin's Revenge (pt.8): The Annointed

Image
I need to visit the Wildebourne Chapel tonight... Morgwen makes her way to the chapel, but her senses are heightened. The anxiety of someone potentially watching her stresses her out. Facing the front wall of the building, she sees a large wooden door... the entrance of the chapel. She notices Kevin's vines all over the chapel, showcasing their devotion to him.  As she's examining the chapel, she notices large stain glass windows all depicting images of Kevin and his vines. She walks over around the building and suddenly, a hooded stranger approaches her from behind... "Morgwen? Is that you?", the stranger says. Why do I recognize that voice...? Morgwen keeps her hand on the hilt of her sword getting ready in case she needs to defend herself. She turns around and makes eye contact with a familiar face. "Morgwen..." the stranger takes off her hood to reveal her feminine face, "It's me, Selene." They both smile and embrace each other, both tear...

A Vinekin's Revenge (pt. 6 - 7): The Mayor's Plan & A History Lesson

Image
Morgwen continues her morning and recalls the directions Jean had given to her to the blacksmith shop, Rock Ridge Forge. She follows the main road and sees the front of the shop. She notices that there are no windows in the front of the building. She then makes her way around the side and notices a broken wooden panel on the wall where she can slip through. Taking a peek inside, she can see someone working in the shop.  There is a metal-worker forging weapons. She sneaks into the building and hides behind a couple of crates, but the worker hears someone break in. He draws a dagger getting ready to defend himself and he asks the stranger to reveal themselves and explain. She slowly gets up with her hands in the air and makes her way around the crates saying, "I just want to know who Graff is, the blacksmith that worked here."  He hesitates, "Who are you? Are you a guard?" Her response is calm and certain, "Morgwen. I seek to simply bring justice." She in...

From Solo TTRPG Player to Dungeon Master

Image
A lot of my friends have asked me questions like, "How do you play D&D?" or "What exactly is D&D?" These are loaded questions and I sometimes have a hard time answering them. A few immediate answers first come to mind... - "I build worlds and characters and draw maps." - "I use random tables and oracles to guide me (as a DM) and my PC (as a player)." - "I roll a lot of dice... like a lot." Haha, all of this is part of the D&D experience. But, I want to give an answer that will DRAW them into it. I want them to understand why they should at least "try" to look at why I love playing TTRPGs in general. So usually, this is my go-to answer for someone who literally has no idea what D&D is... - "It's a game where you and your friends gather around and explore a dangerous fantasy world and in the end, create a great and memorable story." Of course, there are some rules here-n-there, but overall the goa...

A Vinekin's Revenge (pt. 5): Looking for Work & the Traveling Blacksmith

Image
As Salo and Morgwen are enjoying their evening meal together, she takes a moment to look at the job posting board by their table. She looks up and notices a lot of openings for construction positions, like builders and craftsmen. Morgwen decides that she would have to go to the Town Hall to chat with the general foreman and take the job. She looks further to her right and sees a poster titled, "Missing & Wanted," and notices a long list of names. Someone pops out to her from the page, hmmm... a missing blacksmith? I wonder if this matches with what Felix saw in Everveil Hollow? Wow, I bet this is the same man that Felix met. It has to be! If Felix is right, I may already have a good start to finding this blacksmith... the pay seems really good too... Morgwen thinks to herself. With her family's notorious reputation in mind, she believes that this may be a good way to have put some "good" to her name in Thornmere.  She looks at Salo, "I think I will tr...

A Vinekin's Revenge (pt. 4): Through Everveil Hollow

Image
For a split second, Morgwen forgot where she is. She opens her eyes and stares up at the ceiling and feels the weight of a warm blanket on her. That's right, we are at the guard post tower...  she thinks to herself. The sharp sound of snoring startles her. She looks over her shoulder and notices Salo and Felix across the room deep asleep in separate bunks. And of course, it was Salo snoring so loudly.  She sits up in her bed, stretches out her arms and realizes that she feels more refreshed than usual. Wow, I have not had that good of a sleep in a long time. Just as she was about to stand up, she hears Felix tossing and turning restlessly in his bunk. She can hear him talking to himself nervously, seeming anxious. Morgwen walks over to Salo's bunk and wakes him up, "Salo, come on. Get up. It's the morning." Rolling his eyes, he glares at Morgwen and sighs, while pulling the blanket over his face, "Can we not just sleep in a little bit longer?" She lift...
