December Challenge: Playing My Current Collection & No-New-Games (Days 10-20)

I have 11 days left! My No-New-Games Challenge for December is close to the end!  It's been HARD trying to not buy games for myself. Ads are everywhere, sales are going on, Kickstarters are launching, etc. BUT. I've learned this:  board games are not going anywhere . New ones are always in the making and a lot make it to retail anyways, so I feel like the FOMO hasn't been hitting me that hard lately? Maybe that's just me?! Instead of highlighting a few games I recently played, I actually just want to cover some things I have learned/realized so far. Keep in mind, I only have 37 games so my collection is pretty small.  1. I am content with the size of my collection. I'd like it to be at or under 50. Everyone has different perspectives on what their limit should look like, and that is OK. While I do love the idea of having 100+ games and big shelf to display them all, I honestly feel like that would overwhelm me. I just know for a fact that if I do have 100+ gam...

December Challenge: Playing My Current Collection & No-New-Games (Days 1-9)

For my December challenge, I am only playing games in my current collection and taking a break from new games (gifts don't count lol). And man, it has been so nice whipping out some games that have been sitting on the shelf! December is an interesting month so far; I've been busy with traveling and such for the holidays, so I have a feeling I won't have as much playtime. But reflecting on just the first 9 days of playing my collection, I was so happy to bring out some really fun games. One I want to highlight is Ascension Tactics.  Ascension Tactics:  Miniatures Deckbuilding Game Flytrap Witch from Ascension Tactics Ok, I'm going to skip on my MTG play (I'm sure it's obvious that I am obsessed with learning new strategies and building decks lol)... BUT a special one I'd like to call out is Ascension Tactics: Miniatures Deckbuilding Game .  I got this game back in October 2024 and it's been around since 2022, and it's such a fun solo experience.  I ...

Monthly Board Game Stats (November)

This is my first time tracking my plays for an entire month! It's interesting to see that my top 3 games are Magic: The Gathering (MTG), Solus: Lost, and Dark Venture. Here's my personal reflection on why: 1. Magic: The Gathering - I enjoy the strategy with building your deck, customizing it and learning about cool combos. And while I enjoy the solo aspect of MTG by playing against my Challenge Deck (Defeat a God, Journey into Nyx), I really love playing against my friend 1v1. I also love that we are both new to MTG, so learning together has been a lot of fun. The social aspect behind MTG, maybe just TCGs in general, I see why it's super popular! I have never played in a multiplayer format yet, but I'd love to eventually! 2. Solus: Lost - Love that this one is so easy to setup and play. I feel like that's why I pull it out often. I think I gravitate towards card games in general because of how quickly it is to set everything up. Solus: Lost has a dungeon-delving v...
