Monthly Board Game Stats (November)
This is my first time tracking my plays for an entire month! It's interesting to see that my top 3 games are Magic: The Gathering (MTG), Solus: Lost, and Dark Venture. Here's my personal reflection on why:
1. Magic: The Gathering
- I enjoy the strategy with building your deck, customizing it and learning about cool combos. And while I enjoy the solo aspect of MTG by playing against my Challenge Deck (Defeat a God, Journey into Nyx), I really love playing against my friend 1v1. I also love that we are both new to MTG, so learning together has been a lot of fun. The social aspect behind MTG, maybe just TCGs in general, I see why it's super popular! I have never played in a multiplayer format yet, but I'd love to eventually!
2. Solus: Lost
- Love that this one is so easy to setup and play. I feel like that's why I pull it out often. I think I gravitate towards card games in general because of how quickly it is to set everything up. Solus: Lost has a dungeon-delving vibe, similar to One Deck Dungeon, you simply move along through your deck to go through different challenges to find 4 homelinks to win. A unique part to this game that I enjoy is the combat mechanic. You have a d20 and use the modifiers to figure out how much damage is dealt. It's a nice change to typical 6-sided dice! Reminds me of D&D haha!
3. Dark Venture
- Played this one A LOT, as many of you know, this is my new obsession haha. This one is probably my new favorite adventure game (besides Call of Kilforth of course), and it's another card based game, so set up is quite simple. I love the replayability this game has. There are so many heroic quests and side quests to complete and there are 2 different gamebooks to change up the adventure. I also love the short-game option you can play. So instead of 12 rounds, you can just do 6 rounds. Another plus is the theme and art. I love the dark fantasy vibes in this game, and I am always easily drawn into it every time I play!
It's interesting to note how spread out my plays are throughout the week. I like to play during my lunch breaks and after work. I also leave out my game a couple hours through the day so I can just go back to it whenever. Depending on the day, I like to start my day reading or playing a short light solo game. Confusing Lands or Dungeon Foury are good ones I like to play in the mornings!
December Challenge?
Not sure how December will look like with my stats, since I'll be traveling a lot for the holidays... BUT I decided to challenge myself by not buying myself any new games (if I get any as a gift, that obviously doesn't count lol), but I want to rotate through my collection! Let's see how December will go!!!
